Work towards your DofE award with Krav Generation!

November 6, 2023

Many schools actively encourage students to get involved in the DofE awards programme. Set up by The Duke of Edinburgh back in 1956, and now operating in more than 140 countries, the programme has evolved over the years and helps young people to grow as individuals.

Open to 14-24-year-olds, participants start with their Bronze award, progressing to Silver and then Gold. There are four key sections (five in Gold) – volunteering, physical, skills and expedition – with the focus on building confidence, teamwork and gaining useful life skills. With an underlying ethos of fun, friendship and personal development, Krav Generation fits really well into the DofE programme and we are delighted to help students achieve their awards.

How some of our students have used Krav Generation as part of their DofE awards

Below is just a snapshot of some of the young people who have completed sections of their DofE award through Krav Generation.

For her Bronze award Shayeri joined our classes to complete the physical section. She saw it as an opportunity to be more physically active and we saw her really develop in terms of fitness. Importantly, her mindset also improved and, having been fairly quiet when she first joined, Shayeri’s confidence increased. That and the self-defence skills she learnt along the way has given her powerful tools to protect herself and others.

Like Shayeri, Marie-Claire wanted to achieve the physical section of the Bronze award. She was very shy and rather reluctant to participate at first, but she quickly became one of the team and matured incredibly quickly. Seeing her grow in confidence and achieve proficiency in self-defence has been so rewarding.

Olivia had no experience of self-defence and was keen to learn something new – Krav Generation was a perfect fit for the skills section. As she progressed, she learnt a range of techniques, from being able to diffuse a situation to disarming opponents of guns and knives.

Lisa used Krav Generation classes for the physical section of the Silver award. Shy at the beginning, she kept coming back and being amongst familiar faces helped Lisa grow in confidence. The classes were great for her fitness, especially the warm-ups and the physical aspect of the self-defence techniques. Lisa is now planning to go for Gold next year and continue her self-defence training.

Camran is another Bronze award participant who joined Krav Generation for the skills section. The classes helped with his physical coordination and really improved his self-discipline. So many boys find themselves getting into fights but Camran learnt that it’s better to de-escalate a situation than to be confrontational – not the easiest concept to take on board at 14 or 15 years of age. Camran was a very conscientious student, always smart and he took pride in wearing his kit. His positive attitude saw him become extremely competent and technically skilled in self-defence.

We’re proud of what all of our DofE participants have achieved and look forward to welcoming them back to complete their next award. As students become more experienced in self-defence they will even have the opportunity to fulfil the volunteering section by supporting our instructors to teach other students.
